Today, 18th December, is International Migrants Day. To mark this we’re publishing a powerful message from the All African Women’s Group
“We are over one hundred women — asylum seekers and refugees. We fled war and starvation. We fled rape and other forms of violence and abuse. Some of us have been detained in detention centres, and many of us are mothers — some separated from our children.
The UK government wants to separate us from our children forever. They want to cut our asylum support and housing. They want to leave us in limbo for years and years. They want to lock people up in camps. This is cruel. This is sexist and racist, and it must stop.
We are fighting back against what the government is doing. We have the right to be here. So much wealth has been stolen from Africa over centuries. We are owed a great debt.
Migrants do vital work in this country. We care. We clean. We build. We organise. If we stop, everything stops.
We send our love and solidarity to migrants and asylum seekers everywhere, across borders.”
