Mourning in solidarity

Members of No to Hassockfield took flowers to Derwentside IRC this week for the women imprisoned there.  Many of the women in Derwentside share the national sense of loss in addition to their own loss of freedom and family life.

In this period of national mourning,  public events across the country, including many ongoing campaigning activities, have been suspended or cancelled. One No to H member said, “women detained in Derwentside IRC have mostly experienced loss and trauma themselves. We felt that it was important to reach out to them during this period of national mourning, to show that we are still thinking about them”.
