We had a highly successful day at the Durham Miners Gala, bringing in new supporters and making positive links with many of the trade unions attending. Thousands of people attend this amazing annual event and we are proud to be part of it.

Making it plain why we campaign

This week  the latest report on Derwentside IRC from its Independent Monitoring Board was published.

IMB 2025 Report

No surprise to find the Board members are yet again urging the Home Secretary to close the Centre, and for the same reasons as in previous years.

Here’s just one observation from the report:

‘The siting of Derwentside has remained a significant problem, with increased difficult journeys for women this year and very few visits from their family, friends and,
especially, their children.‘

We agree. Separating women from their children when they have not committed a crime is needlessly cruel. Placing them where they have little hope of regularly seeing them is beyond cruelty.

Making our voices heard every week

Our next  protest at the gates of Derwentside Immigration Removal Centre is on Saturday July 18th 

If you want the women in Derwentside to know they are not forgotten join us THIS Saturday 18^th July 12 – 2pm. We will raise our voices and stand together with the women imprisoned within the centre.

    We are very clear that the reason for our protest every month is so that

 … the women imprisoned inside Derwentside IRC know they are not forgotten

…the staff working at Derwentside IRC know the women are not forgotten

… local people know that women are imprisoned at Derwentside IRC.

We also have a presence at the site every other weekend of the month.

On the 2^nd, 4^th and occasionally 5^th Saturday of the month.

On the 1^st Sunday of the month at 3pm there is a faith vigil.
