The Government’s Immigration Policy is in tatters

The publicity around the dreadful conditions at Manston is now provoking media attention and enquiries about conditions in Hassockfield/Derwentside Immigration Removal Centre.

While we are given to understand that women brought to Derwentside IRC have adequate facilities, the same is clearly not true elsewhere in our broken asylum system.

We’ll be taking the chance to tell journalists that the problems facing women in Durham’s IRC are different – but not in the most crucial aspect of their plight:

People making desperate and dangerous journeys to find safety on our shores are instead being locked up as if they were criminals.
